About
Ori is an LA-based artist who works in mixed media. They are invested in socio-political issues which is often reflected in their works.
Most images of naked women in magazine and art galleries were constructed by men. Ori’s figurative works challenge this distorted representation with lines that liberate the joy of feminine shapes without the projected hunger.
We sprout and return from the earth. Ori’s landscapes are painted in plein air (on site) through a mental technique they call organic camera. The goal is to elucidate the relationship between a person and a space through paintings. For these, Ori would select a specific, fixed location and paint a sunset from the same spot at the same time over many days.
Ori’s portraiture is where they lavish joy in representing light with unusual color choices. They draw from the the shape-eliciting emotions of the abstract expressionists in how each shade is constructed on the face. Their lines and brushstrokes challenge and harmonize the stark shapes until the image is (somewhat) recognizable.
